Saturday Morning Daydreams: A Sad Day

Today's edition of Saturday Morning Daydreams is quite a bit different than previous weeks.  This is because I'm only daydreaming about one thing today: my sweet Bubby dog.

Leary (aka "Bubby"), who is my canine companion of the last 15 years, my muse, my soul mate, and the inspiration behind Bubby & Bean, was diagnosed with Canine Hemangiosarcoma yesterday.  The pronosis is poor and the cancer is incurable, and he's been given a few days to a few weeks (6 maximum) to live.  Robbie flew home from tour last night to be with us, and this weekend will be devoted to spoiling Leary in every possible way.  Leary's been in great health and suddenly collapsed yesterday morning, so this was a complete shock.  Despite utter devastation and endless tears, I still don't quite believe it's real.

I hope you will all forgive me as I take a few days off of our regularly scheduled creative inspiration themed posts to spend time with the love of my life and let this all sink in.

If you'd like to learn more about the most magical dog in the world, you can view Leary's 15th birthday post right here.

  17. Wishing you all joy together throughout these difficult days ahead. I hope you can find some comfort in the special moments you will be able to share with Leary this weekend and in the weeks to come. While loving opens our hearts to pain and loss, the love we are given in return never ends, it lasts forever in our hearts.

  20. So very sorry to hear about your Bubby. I have an eleven year old lab that has been my shadow since I first left home. Coming to terms with the fact they you will outlive them is the hardest thing about having such a best friend with four legs. Just comfort him and give him all the love that you can muster and know that when he reaches the rainbow bridge, he will be in peace. Remember the good times! May Peace and Love be with you and Robbie and Bubby as you deal with these difficult times. He will always be in your hearts!

  22. Thank you so, so much everyone. Leary has had a wonderful weekend full of hiking, filet mignon, presents, and love. (And a brand new bed, so he can be extra comfy!). The hardest part is that he doesn't seem sick at all, and with this horrible disease, he may feel perfectly fine for several weeks. So making the decision as to when we need to let him go will be very difficult. I'll be by his side 24/7, looking for any signs of change (and any signs from him). Fortunately, he isn't in pain, and a friend who is a vet assured me of this. So for now, we just watch and wait. It's a terrible feeling to know that he's essentially dying - I still can't believe it's real. At the same time, I am grateful that we were given a little time to spend with him knowing that this is the end, so that we can be certain to spoil him in every possible way.

Depending on what happens, I do plan to continue to work this week, which includes, of course, posting on the blog. I'm finding that if I don't take breaks from play time with Leary to do other things to occupy my mind, I break down. I need to stay strong for him, and the blog is my absolute favorite work to do, so although I'm not sure how many posts there will be this week, there will be posts (including a giveaway!).

    Love + Gratitude,
    melissa
