Happy Birthday Mom + My Poor Bubby Dog

This is just a quick post to give the best mama in all the land a birthday shout-out: HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!  I LOVE YOU!

I also wanted to update you all and let you know that my posting may be slightly sporadic over the next few days.

Bubby dog has had a rough couple of days, especially last night, when he had his worst seizure so far.  Robbie was gone at a concert, and unfortunately, Bubby tends to have the seizures when Robbie leaves.  He loves his daddy and gets all sorts of separation anxiety in his old age.  As tough as I think I am, it was really difficult to deal with on my own, both logistically and emotionally.  After the initial seizure, he had another small one, and was up all night panting and pacing.  Mama was up too.  Robbie goes back on the road tomorrow for the weekend, and I'll confess that I'm worried.  Bubby's seizures have been few and far between enough so far that we haven't had to to stress about them too much, but once an epileptic dog starts having longer lasting, more frequent episodes, that's when the concern starts.  On top of his cancer and age (15!), it's a pretty difficult time.

I've fallen behind on work the last couple of days taking care of Bubby, and I need to try to get caught up.  Posting on the blog is one of the favorite parts of my day, so I'm not going to be taking any sort of hiatus, but my perfectly scheduled every morning posts may not be so perfectly scheduled over the next few days.

I'll definitely keep you all updated!

  13. Let me start by honestly exclaiming: Wow, is that your mother? I thought it was you! You sure look like an exact copy of your mom, don't you?

And about Bubby, I know how hard it is to have a sick dog at home, it tears your heart to pieces. 15 years is a really long lifetime for a dog and I guess all you can do now is show him you love him. I had the most awesome of German Shepards and she got to live to the same age. In her last years she was blind and deaf but she kept on loving us. A person who has never had a dog at home would not understand the connection built between a dog and their owner... but I know how you feel. Just love him.

  16. best of luck with your pup. i lost my childhood dog when he was 7 years old, way too young, and it was one of the hardest things i've ever had to deal with - dogs just have a way of burrowing the deepest in your heart. i hope everything works out okay, take all the time you need and we'll be here waiting when you return! xox

  17. Thanks so much everyone! You guys are all so awesome. I took Leary ("Bubby") to the vet this morning for blood work to make sure all is okay (other than the obvious cancer) so he can be put on low-dose meds to hopefully prevent the seizures. We know he doesn't have much time left, but we want it to be happy and pain-free for him. I am exhausted but hope to have a brand new post up over the weekend!

    xo,
    melissa
