A Rock N' Roll Themed Baby Shower

rockstar baby shower
Last weekend, my friend Rachel hosted a baby shower for our dear friend Susie, and I got to be in charge of designing the decor.  Susie is one of the coolest, kindest, most all-around awesome people I know, and Rachel wanted to put together something really special for her.  She is also a huge music fan, so we decided to create a "Rockstar Baby" theme, incorporating star patterns and a red and black color scheme.

Rachel and our friend Mary Welch created the cutest diaper cake ever, complete with rockstar pacifiers and red star ribbon, and topped with mini KISS kicks and a red headphone onesie.  Rachel then surrounded the cake with black and red star cookies from a local bakery that guests could take home as favors.  I made a 'VIP Mommy' laminate by creating a design in Photoshop with Susie's picture, printing on photo paper, adhering to some silver glitter card stock, then gluing to a laminate that we had leftover from one of Robbie's band's tours.  We put it around the cake and then had Susie wear it for the shower.  I also designed "rockstar baby" star letters that I printed onto kraft card stock, cut into circles, and strung together with red ribbon to create a banner.

The food was absolutely amazing.  Since many of us are vegetarians, Rachel made an all veggie spread: two kinds of quiche, a cheese/grape/fig platter, deviled eggs, and a yummy mixed greens salad with a homemade maple vinaigrette.  To drink, there was pink champagne and blueberry infused green tea.  And in keeping with the star theme, the beverages were beautifully garnished with cut starfruit.

rockstar cupcake toppers
Our friend Annie baked the most delicious yellow cake cupcakes topped with chocolate frosting and mini stars.  We arranged the cupcakes on one of my vintage vinyl record dessert stands (find out how to make your very own right here!), and decorated them with rockstar cupcake toppers.  I made the toppers by designing little guitar circle graphics, printing onto kraft cardstock, cutting and rounding the edges with a corner cutter, outlining the circles in red glitter glue, and gluing onto toothpicks.  It was a really gorgeous food spread, and most importantly, Susie loved it!

Rather than traditional games, Rachel bought a bunch of blank onesies and fabric markers so that the guests could create one-of-a-kind pieces of baby wearable art.  She put on some music and we got to work making onesies for Susie to take home for her new baby boy.

All in all, the mama-to-be was very happy with her rock n' roll shower.  I had so much fun designing and DIY-ing the decor, and Rachel did an amazing job with the food, presentation, and putting it all together.  That little boy is definitely a future rockstar!  And while the ladies had an afternoon of baby goodness, the boys had their own little party for the dad-to-be at the new abode of our friends Brendan and Annie.  Robbie said it was full of 'manly things' like meat, beer, and sports.  I have to say, I'm glad I got to be part of the cupcakes, crafting and champagne party.  Much more up my alley. :)
