I Want To Know: What Is Your Favorite Thing About Autumn?

What Is Your Favorite Things About Autumn? // Bbby and Bean

There are only 11 days left until the first official day of autumn.  If you're counting.  Bloggers seem to get especially excited about this particular changing of the seasons, but I'm one of the rare ones who waits to celebrate fall's arrival until it's actually here.  This isn't so much because I'm not a fan of fall as it is I'm just too busy clinging onto the end of summer - relishing in the final days of sunshine, ice cream cones, bare feet, road trips, outdoor parties, summer cocktails (or this year, mocktails, thanks to the bean in my belly), green, lush trees, and wildflower-dotted fields.  My regular readers know that I am a summer girl through and through (and you're probably relieved that it's almost over so I'll stop talking about it), but there are things about autumn that I absolutely adore.  This holds true for Bubby and Bean's medium and large sponsors too.  I asked them to share their favorite parts of the fall season, and I want to know yours as well!  (I'll share mine at the end of the post.)  And to find out more about the rad people behind Bubby and Bean's September sponsor team, just click on the links in each of their submissions below to visit their homes around the web.

1. LAURA FROM ROOTS & FEATHERS
My favorite thing about fall is the renewing spirit it gives me. After the Texas summer heat, it is so refreshing when the air starts turning cooler. It gives me a lift in my spirit, makes me want to get out in the woods, and gives me things to look forward to like campfires and hot cocoa!

2. SARA FROM WINE COUNTRY GOODNESS
My favorite part of fall is finally getting back into big, bold red wines! My summer is filled with Sauvignon Blanc, Rose, and Pinot Noir but once fall hits, I jump right in to my Cabs, Syrahs, and Malbecs. Right now my favorite is is the 2010 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Jigar Wines. It is made from hand picked blocks with just the right balance of body and fruit. It is the perfect way to welcome fall!

3. VIOLET FROM BLYTHE PONYTAIL PARADES:
My favorite thing about fall is the scent of cool crisp air, wearing layers again, pumpkin spice candles and fall parties. Best time of the year!

4. MARIA FROM LITTLE TREE:
My favorite thing about the fall is the changing color of the leaves and pumpkin spiced lattes of course!

5. BRANDI + KELLY FROM MUCHO MUCHO BUENO BUENO:
My favorite thing about Fall or Autumn.... well we don't really have that here in Houston, but I do love the idea of the leaves changing color and sitting my the fire drinking cocoa.

6. MADINA FROM PRIVATE OPENING:
My favorite thing about autumn is that it's less humid and more comfortable. Fall is a reminder for all of us to get serious and focused.

7. MACK FROM SOULMAKES:
I love watching the colors change. There's nothing more beautiful than seeing Mother Nature's artwork unfold right in front of me. I also love pumpkin patches, hay rides, apple cider, big comfy sweaters and the way the leaves float slowly to the ground.

8. ANDREA FROM GAIA CONCEPTIONS:
The intoxication of the changing leaves... The light shines through burnt oranges, bright ochre yellow, and aubergines that bleed into deep reds. The crispy cool air wisps into the warm decaying earth to create a smell both comforting and invigorating.

Big thanks to those who shared their favorite things about autumn today (and to all of the wonderful shops and blogs who chose to advertise this month!).  Sponsors are crucial to Bubby and Bean.  The funds raised by their ad spots are used to devote the necessary time and money to keep this blog going and make sure it's at its best for our readers. Sponsors support Bubby and Bean, so when our readers support our sponsors, everyone wins!

As for me, I love fall campfires, layering clothing, going apple picking, and picking out pumpkins.  I am also a complete dork about carving pumpkins and making roasted pumpkin seeds (check out my recipe for spicy pumpkin seeds!).  I actually prefer summer heat and sunshine over the cold, dark nights of autumn, but I also really appreciate the fact that the intense midwest humidity finally fades away with fall.  And Halloween is one of my favorite holidays.  My husband's band always plays a huge show and it's a major party with all of our friends.

Your turn!  What are your favorite things about fall?  I want to know!

  1. Lovely favorites :)
Mine is the crunch a stack of leaves makes when walking a path. Popping over to a friends house only to find they have cider warming on the stove. Getting to wear knitted sweaters, knowing I have all winter to lose a few pounds (really this time, ha) before spring. Carving pumpkins and getting the soft, sticky pulp all over my hands. x

  2. Melissa, as you probably know by now, I'm a summer girl through and through too :)
Over here it is cold and rainy already...

  3. Apples, definitely apples. I live in apple country in upstate New York and look for as many varieties as possible--Winesap, Northern Spy, Spartan, Autumn Crisp . . . yum.

Oh, and I love when the snow geese migrate through.

  9. My favorite thing is the smell of Autumn! The pumpkin smell, the cooler outside tree smells, the wood and leaves burning smells, the baking smells. Kinda silly, but yeah, I like the smells! :)

  10. Pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin! I cannot get enough of it during the fall months. Coffees, cheesecakes, breads, donuts, pies, cookies, soups, it's all so good and I savor it all throughout autumn!

  11. Fall just has a specific feel to it that I really can't describe... Something about the breeze, the leaves...I can't put my finger on it. It just makes me feel a certain way that I love, like no other time of the year.

But I love fall, and my fav part is the lovely Fall Colored trees and the weather....in texas we had just a few colors at some places, I want to see the full bloom someday! We have to go to US for business trip in november, not sure if by then we will be able to see any colors.

  14. (It was so weird to not answer this question in the email! Frowny-face.)

I love the clothes. I know you're a summer gal, but I just hate getting dressed in hot weather. I'm still all knees and elbows, so longer silhouettes work better and those are easier to do when you can layer. :-)

  16. We don't really have fall in southeast Alaska. Fall on this little island = Alaska Day, more dark, rain, gortex, fires, the ocean, fog, smoked salmon and deer season. I do miss Starbucks' pumpkin lattes, but make them on my own to celebrate this time of year.
