Hairspiration (Help Me Figure Out A New Do!)

Hair
1  //  2  //  3  //  4  //  5  //  6  //  7  //  8

My hair is currently in a really weird in between stage.  Actually, I'm not sure if it's 'in between' anything; it's just kind of there.  I got it cut a few weeks ago, so it's not necessarily neglected or unhealthy.  I guess I just feel like I've been waiting for a new style epiphany to hit me for a good year now.  (Because, you know, with all of the problems we have going on in the world today, my hair style is clearly a very important and serious matter.) I had bangs for eight years up until last winter when I decided to finally grow them out, and I feel like they just haven't found their happy place since.  I keep trimming them slightly, so they're currently these sort of overly long, chin-length side swept things.  I've tried parting down the middle, but I feel like it just calls attention to what I'd describe as a borderline fivehead.  Also, I'm not sure what happened to that whole 'your hair will grow so fast when you're pregnant' promise, because it hasn't happened to me.  If anything, I feel like it has stopped growing in pregnancy.  Bummer.

All of this said, I've been keeping my eyes peeled online for hair inspiration, as seen above.  I seem to be drawn to long, slightly messy looks, and honestly, that's basically what I've already got.  My hair is naturally wavy and aside from the times that I make the effort to straighten it, it looks pretty unkempt.  But something needs to change.  Maybe once the baby is born and it's safe to dye, it will be time for a fun new color.  Or maybe I just need to suck it up go back to my old trademark bangs.  What do you guys think?  Any suggestions?  Have any of your had a change of hairstyle recently?

  1. Melissa, all of these haircuts look the same, except a couple of them have bangs. Haha. So, is it really unsafe to color your hair while pregnant? I've always wondered about that, but I see a lot of popular mommy bloggers still obviously coloring their hair throughout their pregnancies, so I thought maybe popular opinion had changed on that. Anyway, my hair is a super long, super mess right now. I haven't dyed it in forever either, so it's about 3 different colors right now. :D

    1. It is safe after the first trimester, and I did dye my grey roots in my third, but I think for more extreme all over color I personally want to wait. :)

  4. I just chopped off four inches and went lighter this past Thursday. I've always been a DIY home dyer and knew I couldn't tackle going lighter myself. I went from pretty close to black to medium brown with highlights for dimension. It was a big change, but I love it! (I think I'm going to have to figure out how to afford having it professionally done more often! HAHA) My favs that you posted above are 1 and 8. You look awesome already though - I don't think you could go wrong with any cut or color. You are bea-u-tiful! :)

  5. I haven't had a change in hairstyle for a very long time. Although I like the look of the bangs in #3 & #5 I tried that once and it doesn't suit me...although they would be perfect for you :)
What on earth is a fivehead?

  7. I go back and forth about getting a fringe again. I had one just before I got pregnant and started growing it out. Now it's grown out and I have the dilemma to go back to a fringe or not all the time. For now I'm keeping the middle part down the middle with lots of layers. I keep the pieces near my face just a bit past my chin. I'm not sure I'm ready to commit to constant fringe trims in my future at the moment. goodluck with your decision and I completely feel for your dilemma.xo

  8. I like bangs, and had them cut last winter. It's too much work for me in the morning, so I am growing them out :-) But once their long again, I'll probably get bored and have them cut again...

  9. Oh, I am the last one to go to for advice about changing hair...I've always had long, super straight hair. Always.
Maybe after baby arrives you can change up the color and cut it a bit more.

  10. I tend to get in a hair rut too. I'm terrible at styling my hair, so I always go with something easy to maintain.

  11. I think we're kind of in the same boat, hair-wise, Melissa. I started growing out my bangs about fourteen months ago. The last time I got my hair cut I had them trimmed up to chin length, which turned out not to make much of a change at all... like you said, they're just kind of there. I'm not sure I want to go back to bangs - they are, after all, high-maintenance - but inspiration number five has me tempted :) Good luck with finding your new style!

  12. melissa, they all look the same to me too, but maybe i'm just duh. i say cut them because i think you want to, so i'm giving you permission. of course your reaction to that will tell you what's truly in your heart, gut, soul, so follow that. yeah, i'm as clear as mud.i plan to get my haircut today. i have to remind myself it'll grow back, if i end up hating it. i agree with everyone else who says you're pretty and i know you will look wonderful whatever DO you decide to do. :)

  14. I feel the exact same way about my hair. I've been growing it out for a while but I don't know what to do with it! I had parted Bridgette Bardot style bangs for a while and really thought they were flattering. And they're kinda a medium between blunt fringe and middle part. Perhaps this is the direction I'll go!

  15. I like #4, but trust me, after Baby Bean arrives, your hair will be in a pony tail most days. Just sayin'....
