8 Stylish Diaper Bags (That Work As Handbags Too)

A few weeks ago, I posted on Facebook asking friends for recommendations of chic-yet-practical diaper bags (that don't look like traditional diaper bags).  My design aesthetic takes a pretty minimalist approach, and most of the diaper bags I've seen have lots of patterns going on or are a little too 'cutesy' for my taste.  I also figure that if I'm going to be using this thing on a daily basis, I'd prefer something that looks like (and can act as a) regular old handbag in addition to holding baby essentials.  I received dozens of responses to my Facebook inquiry, so I thought I'd share some of my favorites with you guys.  Even if you're not in the market for a diaper bag, any of these would make super stylish purses as well.  (And some of them are just purses, with the potential to work as diaper bags.)

Which one is your favorite?  And are there any great brands or styles I might have missed?

  1. Love. Number. Five. I don't have any specific brands for you since I don't have kids, but I agree with your idea that a diaper bag looks much better when it doesn't scream in your face.

  4. I would go with #5. It's casual and classy at the same time. It looks roomy enough for all essentials and it's a bag that can go with any season.

  7. These are great! Apart from perhaps number 3 and 7, I would never have guessed that any of these were intended to be used as diaper bags - but the fact that they can all double as them and still look stylish is wonderful. I'd happily carry the Kate Spade one any day of the week!

  8. I love the first one because I just love anything with that color brown leather, but I also love number three because it has a lot of pockets. Pockets are so key. More than just for storing things, they are the best for stashing snack wrappers, dirty tissues and wipes, etc. away from all the other stuff. I agree too- a regular bag is great for everyday. We only pull out the big diaper bag if we're going to be away from home for several hours.

  9. Great choices...I love 3,4 and 7. I like that they're so chic and modern. I know what you mean about traditional diaper bags being too cutesy.

  10. My friend Jen swears by Moop bags - she has a messenger style grey one (medium size is best she says) that she uses as her diaper bag, and it doubles as her handbag for everyday as well! I'm actually thinking of getting one to replace the $20 back pack we bought at Target when we couldn't decide on a diaper bag!

  14. I use the Wistful Weekender by Petunia Pickle Bottom. We used the Satchel at first, but it didn't hold enough. Once that baby comes, you'll realize you need a very big bag! :)

  18. I'm so with you on this...I feel like so many diaper bags look like diaper bags, i.e. way to cutesy. The ones you have pictured above are great, I think I like #2 the best. I got a diaper bag from this Etsy seller: https://www.etsy.com/shop/Zakken (I have been using it, though, as my main purse since I received it back in September....we'll see if I actually end up using it as a diaper bag!)
