I Want to Know: What Are Your Goals + Plans for 2014?

I Want to Know: What Are Your Goals + Plans for 2014?

I've mentioned a few times around here that I'm not a fan of New Year's resolutions.  I feel like they create too much pressure and tend to be unrealistic (at least the ones I've attempted), and by the time we're at this point (a few weeks into January), they're often forgotten.  I am, however, all about having a plan or goal (or two or three) to work toward for the year.  Personally, I find that creating an open-minded idea of a few things I'd like to see happen in a given year creates much better results than a strict resolution that might require an intense (and again, unrealistic) lifestyle change.  For January's "I Want to Know," I decided to ask Bubby and Bean's medium and large sponsors to share their goals/plans/dreams for 2014.  I'll also share mine at the end of the post, and I'd love to hear yours as well!

To find out more about the rad people behind Bubby and Bean's January sponsor team, just click on the links in each of their submissions below to visit their homes around the web.  Their shops and blogs each have something pretty fantastic to offer.  Be sure to take a peek at their social media accounts as well!

1. BRANDI FROM MUCHO MUCHO BUENO BUENO:
Goals of mine for 2014 are to read the bible in a year, travel to 3 new places, learn Spanish, and stick to a budget so we can buy a house!

2. ANDREA FROM GAIA CONCEPTIONS:
In 2014 Gaia's plans are to connect with like minds in textiles and permaculture as we retrace parts of the Silk Road in Pakistan, India, and China with a bit of time in Japan for good measure. We will be posting new designs photographed in amazing locations and documenting the journey through the Gaia blog!

3. D'ANN FROM MISMATCHED SIMPLICITY:
One of my favorite authors and speakers, Shauna Niequist, recently wrote about intentionally being present over perfect. This will be my goal/battle cry/constant struggle in 2014: fighting to have quality over quantity and taking the time to be truly present.

4. JANE FROM JACARANDA DESIGNS:
My goal for 2014 to be the best friend I can be to a few special people who are going to be facing a very challenging year. On a lighter note, to travel somewhere I've never been and experience the world through eyes of another culture.

5. MARIA FROM LITTLE TREE:
I want to follow my gut, and trust my intuition. If something feels wrong or right, I want to trust that the universe is making the right decisions for me.

6. SARAH FROM LIFE INTO WORDS:
One goal I have for 2014 is to pursue music more. In 2013 writing, recording and playing for people fell by the wayside, so I hope to pick it back up this year!

7. KIM FROM 2JUSTBYOU:
Something I want to try for this year is some gluten-free cooking and baking. I've started rounding up recipes on Pinterest, and I'm ready to dive in and give it a shot. We had tried it before when my youngest son was a baby, but I'm ready to give another try.

Thanks again to those who shared their plans and goals for 2014 (and to all of the wonderful shops and blogs who chose to advertise in January!).  Sponsors are crucial to Bubby and Bean.  The funds raised by their ad spots are used to devote the necessary time and money to keep this blog going and make sure it's at its best for our readers. Sponsors support Bubby and Bean, so when our readers support our sponsors, everyone wins!

As for me, my biggest goal for 2014 is to learn how to create the best balance in my life.  It took me several years to learn how to allow myself time to enjoy life (instead of being so career obsessed), and now that I have a new baby, there is a whole different element to incorporate.  I plan to be mindful of what happens in the everyday so that I can eventually get a system down that includes time for being a mom, working, and enjoying a little free time.  I'm going to do my best to be patient and let things fall into place naturally.  This isn't always easy for a Type A personality, but I think it's important, and I'm going to make it happen.

Your turn!  What plans, goals, or dreams so you have for the upcoming year?  I want to know!

  1. My big goal is to launch my design business. We have some smaller stuff on deck for the house, but since starting any new venture will take a lot of time, I didn't want to put anything else too official on my plate. Like you said, a girl needs some work/life balance.

  3. My biggest goal is to be able to move back to New Zealand and find a job there. Or better yet, be able to make blogging my job... :p

  4. What great goals! I'm planning to draw more designs to use for digital stamps and CafePress products. I'm not off to a bad start with my Lady Bug Valentine.

  5. Love this! Cute intro to some of your sponsors too ;)

Hm...I need to work on tooting my own horn in a way that feels genuine and honest. I'm allergic to self-promotion, but really, really need to get over it....

  6. Mine are... (it's a rather long list, haha)

Be the best wife, momma, and me, that I can be
Be healthier, and help my little family be healthier as well (eating better, yoga, etc.)
    Help people, and move on
Have more spa nights, example: putting on soothing lotion, a facial mask, etc.
Dye my hair a very bold pink
Read more, and share my want to read list here on LnL
Grow my blog readership, and hopefully make new friends through blogging
Be boldly honest (I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not)
    Create more
Learn an instrument (preferably violin, ocarina, and or guitar)
Practice, and hopefully be, a better witch
Do more for the holidays and sabbats
Be more timely with appointments, medication refills, paperwork, etc.
Build a better wardrobe (including accessories)
Go camping, a lot, even if it's only in our backyard
Remodel our room (or, an even bigger goal, move into our own place!)
Role-play on Guild Wars 2, and or another MMORPG, more
    Be greener
Be easy on myself, especially with most of these goals. I don't 'do' pressure.

  10. Everyone is so inspiring. My word for 2014 is expansiveness. After doing some vision boards and journal writing, I'm focusing on getting more deeply involved in my blog writing and workshop teaching while continuing to gain more knowledge but continuing to have fun and keeping a healthy balanced life. A tall order! but I'm looking forward to the challenge and hopefully, reward of it all.
