Wonderful Winter

 1  //  2  //  3  //  4

Those of you who know me (even through this blog) have most definitely never heard me use the words 'wonderful' and 'winter' in the same sentence.  I complain about winter on a fairly regular basis.  I'm a nature girl at heart, and it's just not desirable (or even possible most of the time) to be outside during the winter months here in the Chicago area.  It's beyond depressing, if we're being honest.  This year in particular has really been horrendous - not just here, but throughout the majority of the U.S.  Just take a quick glance at your Instagram feed, your blog reader, or your Facebook page, and you're bound to see complaints galore about this craptastic winter we're having right now.

Rather than waste more of my energy ranting about my hatred toward winter, I decided that it's time to take the positive route.  I hunted down some really beautiful wintertime images, and used them to remind myself that the most disliked of all seasons can actually be pretty wonderful sometimes.  When I lived in Colorado, I remember thinking that winter there was the most beautiful season I'd ever experienced.  And although it will never look like that (or, let's face it, like any of these images) where I live now, it does look like this somewhere, which is good enough for me.  You'll never be my best friend, most freezing and colorless of seasons, but you definitely have your merits if given a chance.  And, as these images prove, you can be quite stunning too.

  1. I live in a city with no seasons and with 90-95 degree temperatures all year round...! What I'd give for just a little bit of winter... those photos are truly stunning!

  3. I just recently did a post on confronting my winter scrooge-ness as well! I'm with you.. the winter is just dreadful. All the snow, the bitter winds, being locked inside - no thank you. But it does seem to be more acceptable/tolerable when we stop and look for the beauty and good in the day. This photography is beautiful... thanks for collecting it and sharing it! Here's to an early Spring :)

  6. Firstly, happiest first month Essley, she's such a little sweet pea and I love seeing her photos on your instagram feed. Those little moc's are killing me. So cute!! And yes, I'm with you... I'm usually one to whine about winter too. Admittedly ours has been mild this year. But, we still get lots of rain and grey and I'm trying, trying to make the most of it!! xoxo

  8. That's the thing about winter - it's like one of those beautiful fruit-topped cakes slathered with gelatine to hold it all together. It looks stunning. But the reality is pretty awful. I really can't complain about the winter in the Pacific Northwest, honestly. But I grew up in the Canadian prairies, so I've had my fair share of winter suffering! The nice thing is, I'm far removed enough now that I can see these photos and smile fondly.
