Hello Arizona + Baby's First Flight

Hello Arizona + Baby's First Flight // Bubby and Bean

Bright and early tomorrow morning, Essley and I hop on a plane and head to Arizona for ten days.  We're staying with my in-laws (who happen to be the coolest in-laws in all the land) in Scottsdale, and Robbie, who is on tour out west with the band right now, will meet us there next Saturday after their show in Tempe. This will be Essley's first time on an airplane, and the first time she's spent any real time outdoors.  The outdoors part I'm incredibly excited about; the flying with an eleven week old baby part, not so much.  Wish us luck, please, because my sweet little girl has one loud cry when she's not happy, and a screaming baby on a crowded airplane isn't fun for anyone.  To be on the safe side, I filled sandwich bags with lollipops, chocolate, ear plugs, and notes that explain how it's baby's first flight and we apologize in advance if she decides to cry (here's a picture of one of them) to hand out to the rows in our section of the plane.  Let's focus on the the positive though, which is that the goodie bags were not even necessary because she's going to adore flying and be the perfect angel the entire way.  (Fingers, toes, and eyes crossed.)

I'll be setting up a portable office while I'm away and will still be working and regularly posting here, but if you'd like to follow along on Essley's and my Arizona adventures, you can do so over on Instagram under user name bubbyandbean.  Have a wonderful weekend!

  6. I hope it goes well. All babies cry...I think most people on the flight will understand that. It helps to nurse, not just because it calms them but the sucking and swallowing helps prevent air bubbles in their ears that are really painful. Those bubbles are painful for my ears too so I imagine they are just as bad for little babies, only they don't know why it's happening or what to do about it except cry. So I would definitely suggest nursing under a blanket, or if you don't feel comfortable with that then a bottle, especially when the plane is descending because that's when it's usually the worst. Impromptu nursing can disrupt her feeding schedule, I know, but that's better than her being upset. I wish you luck! I'm sure it will be fine. xo

    1. Yep, that's the plan! :) We use mostly a baby led feeding schedule still (when she's hungry, she eats, or every 3-4 hours, whichever comes first), and she never turns down milk, so it shouldn't disrupt it too bad. She just hates to be still (like her mom!) so I have a feeling we'll be walking the aisle a lot!

  8. The little goody bags was very considerate. After that, I wouldn't worry too much. You've done what you can, but babies cry and people will just have to get over it. There much worse things in life than a lousy 4 hour flight. Enjoy this little adventure with your babe.
