My Favorite Jeans for Spring

The Best Jeans for Spring 2014 // Bubby and Bean

Want to know a secret?  I haven't worn a pair of jeans since before I got pregnant (which was over a year ago), aside from one pair of maternity jeans that I wore less times than I can count on one hand.  Maybe I'm being a little dramatic in calling it a secret, but really, it's kind of odd that something that was once a wardrobe staple for me has become nonexistent in my closet.  These days you can usually find me in either a dress or an oversized tee and leggings.  (I may have gotten just a little too comfortable in the leggings uniform during the pregnancy, as it's sort of stuck.)  I had a couple of pairs of trusty skinnies that I wore constantly before getting pregnant, but alas, they just don't fit me the same now that I've had a baby.  So jean-less I have become.

Now that spring is here, I'm feeling an urge to get back into a good pair.  I'm envisioning a soft white tee, layered necklaces, loads of rings on my fingers, a brown floppy hat or grey beanie, some simple strappy sandals, and a great pair of denim jeans.  I have it in my head and I'm determined to make it happen. So I've set out on a search for the pair that will become my go-to's.  The styles you see above are my favorite finds so far.  The cuts, fits, washes are different (as are the price points), but they each have the potential to become my new wardrobe staple pair, perfect for springtime.   I'm especially a fan of #1 from True Religion Brand Jeans and #6 from J.Crew.  Both are equal parts casual and chic, and perfect for springtime.

Do you have a favorite pair of jeans for spring (or any time of the year)?  Which of the pairs above do you think I should get?

  1. Any chance you could add the prices to the descriptions? I'd love to see which ones are in my price range without having to click through

  2. I can't imagine my life without denim - I challenged myself to go without it for a year once and actually lasted about eight months, but what I really learned in that period is just how much I love it. I have more pairs of jeans than I should admit to, and wear them all regularly. I hope you'll find your perfect pair! Personally, I'm thinking one or two of the pairs on your list would be welcome additions to my own collection, too!

  3. It's funny that you should post this today because I also haven't worn jeans in forever and I've been looking for new ones. I've never purchased TRs because everyone says they stretch out badly after a few hours of wear, but maybe it depends on the style. I also can't wear Madewells because they're too stiff and hurt my knees (skinny girl problem). For a long time, J Crew seemed to struggle getting the recipe right for stretch pants and the material would just fit weird. Maybe they've gotten better?

I've never paid for "premium" denim, and it's hard for me to imagine doing so because JEANS, but I'm pretty disappointed in what I've seen so far this season, so who knows. H&M stretch out and get the saggy butt look pretty much instantly. Can you tell that I'm a picky shopper? Haha. I actually don't even expect that much from pants, just that they're comfortable and don't stretch out, but those two things rarely come in one package. Or maybe I'm just hard to please. ;)

    1. I've gone both ways with jeans (premium and inexpensive), and although for the most part I don't like to spend a lot on clothes, they're one item where I've found that it's worth it to shell out a little more on one or two good pairs. Thanks for all the info! You've definitely done your research. :)

    2. I concur about H&M. I have one pair from there that I've had for years, but they only look good for a few hours. Then it's all baggy knees and saggy butt. And then I have to wash them again.

Uniqlo has some comfy skinnies that are pretty stretchy, but OF COURSE they don't have a store in Chicago, so I have to order them online or wait until I go to NY or SF.

  4. I love jeans. I prefer dark washes, but for spring/summer, lighter is better. For that reason, I would go with #8. I also really like #1, a darker wash with the lighter fade. =0)

  5. Thanks for the suggestions! I have about 5 pairs of jeans for all different purposes, but I would like a good pair of distressed jeans just for cuteness. That's something I'm lacking. Currently wearing a cheapie pair of Jordache (!) stretch skinny jeans and they're a favorite.

  6. You should search for the Denim brand "Yoga Jeans" and give those a try - they are made in Canada and insanely comfortable (Warning: they are addictive. I have ....a "few" pairs :)

  7. The first ones look like exactly my style. I'm on the look out for a new pair of jeans myself, so this is helpful! =)

  8. #6 are in my cart over at the 'Crew!

great collection of cute jeans. I pretty much wear jeans every other day, and all of mine are becoming quite snug since my baby is nursing less! not sure how i'll fare with the post-breastfeeding weight gain! I'll have to start working out- these couple years of burning calories all day without little working out have been splendid!
