My New Favorite Green Smoothie (Aloha Style)

Back in May, I shared three of my favorite smoothie recipes with you guys (see here; I'll be sharing my new favorite below as well).  I talked about how, in an effort to find ways to enjoy whole, nutritious meals on the regular, a daily smoothie had become a part of my life.  I'm happy to report that since then, I've continued to create and drink them everyday. (It's not exactly hard when they are DELICIOUS.)  In addition to exercise (daily walking, at least a few minutes of daily yoga or Pilates, and a weekly run), rest and meditation, and other clean, plant-based meals, they have become a routine part of my own personal journey toward living a more healthy lifestyle.  I'm not going to lie - I have no immediate plans to give up the occasional ice cream, pizza, or french fries.  But since having Essley, I've really put the effort into making positive choices in terms of my health and taking things up a notch nutrition-wise.

Speaking of taking my healthful journey up a notch, I recently learned of a powder made by a company called Aloha that can be added to smoothies (or water, or juice, or whatever liquid you choose) and has all sort sorts of amazing benefits.  I haven't been interested in adding powders to my smoothies in the past, because I've often found the ingredients to be unnecessary, even questionable. This stuff is a completely different story though.  Aloha Daily Good Greens powder is a 100% natural, vegan whole-food product (with ingredients liked organic spirulina, organic wheatgrass juice, sustainable moringa, organic king trumpet mushrooms, wild-harvested coconut water and lots more - all dried using a special process that keeps them whole to preserve fiber) that energizes, hydrates, and cleanses.  There are zero artificial flavors, artificial sweeteners, animal products, fillers, or chemicals.  It sounded like the perfect addition to my daily smoothies, and they have a pretty great free trial offer, so I was all about giving it a try.  (If you like it, they have a super convenient and affordable monthly subscription service, so I figured it was a win-win.)

I received my Blend Box of Daily Good Greens quickly, and tried it out first thing the next morning in my smoothie.  The package came with three blends - Original, Berry, Chocolate.  I decided to go for the Original first.  I was admittedly very excited to be able to add such an incredible variety of healthy ingredients (two servings of fruits and veggies in each packet, with whole-food vitamin D!) just by opening one of the packets and pouring it in - you can't get much easier than that.  It blended into my smoothie perfectly, and over the next few days, I tried the rest of the varieties as well.  I definitely noticed an increase in energy after a couple of days of using it - and not in a shaky, caffeine-induced sort of way.  It was a clean, healthy feeling boost.  I'm certain that with regular use, the immune system and overall full body benefits are pretty great, and I look forward to making Aloha a regular part of my routine.

I also discovered another favorite new smoothie recipe over the course of trying my Aloha Blend Box, so clearly I had to share with you.  I'm calling this the Green Goddess 2.  It's similar to my original Green Goddess recipe that I shared a few months back, but slightly sweeter, and with an added boost of nutritional goodness.  This one has also officially replaced the Green Goddess as my favorite smoothie of all time.
  • 2 handfuls of organic baby greens (kale, spinach, and chard)
  • 1/4 cup of frozen organic pineapple
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup of frozen organic mangoes
  • a few frozen organic red grapes
  • A few chunks of avocado
  • 1 packet of Aloha Daily Good Greens in Original or Berry
  • 1/2 cup of coconut water (or plain water)
  • organic granola (optional; my favorite is coconut + chia seed)

Blend all ingredients except for the granola together in a blender (I recommend using one with a powerful motor and/or specifically made for making blended drinks) to your desired consistency.  Pour into a big ol' glass or two smaller glasses and top with granola.  Enjoy its deliciousness while your reap health benefits galore.

If you're on a healthful journey as well, you can sign up for the same Aloha Free Trial that I did and experience the Daily Good Greens powder for 14 days, with the benefits of an auto enrollment into the monthly service if you choose to continue.  I highly recommend giving it a try.  In addition to making a killer nutritional powder, Aloha is good people.  They don't use any animal products, they have a commitment to social responsibility, and they respect the environment by consciously seeking out compostable or 100% recycled packaging solutions and choosing sustainable wind power.  I am a fan.

I hope you enjoy this new smoothie recipe too.  I'm on day three of making them and don't plan to stop.  They're that good.

  2. The product sounds interesting and the smoothie looks delicious. I suppose it would take a special blender to create a truly smooth blend that isn't chunky but is silky, smooth on the palate. I've looked at the Ninja blenders but their cost always turns me away.

    1. I used to use a Nutribullet (and still do sometimes) but eventually I upgraded to a Ninja because I use it for everything (my daily smoothies, soups, purées, baby food for Essley). I used a 20% off coupon and it has definitely paid for itself. If you're not blending nuts or hard ingredients though, you can usually use any old blender with a decent motor. :)

The Aloha powder sounds great too! I really like that it is 100% natural!

  5. I'm still making smoothies regularly too, and I'm kind of amazed I've kept it up this long haha. It's probably about time I tried some new flavors. :)

  6. I always love your green smoothie recipes, Melissa, although I'm rarely brave enough to try them - I tend to stick to strawberries, bananas and almond milk in my smoothies, with chia seeds if I'm feeling adventurous!
