It's the moooooost wonderful tiiiiiiiime of the yeaaaaaaar!

And it really is. Even though I'm an adult now with 900 things to do everyday, I still get giddy around Christmas. I like shopping for gifts, there's always a pie around, it's fun to look at the lights in the neighborhood, and obviously, I get to transform the house into a winter wonderland. I'm usually prancing around shrieking about Rudolph and elves, so I don't really need my decorations to do the talking for me. Instead, I like festive goodies that blend with my everyday pieces. (A subtle wink to tone down my personal enthusiasm. Ha ha.) Today I have a collection of modern Christmas ideas that will mesh with your existing decor.

Let's talk about those nutcrackers first. Despite my modern heart, I do like elements of traditional design, too. The recognizable shape screams, "CHRISTMAS!" but the white paint makes them sleek and simple. (The link above is actually a DIY project, so you can make your own little army.) The berry branches are an easy way to add some red to a room, and they'd make a fun alternative Christmas tree for folks who don't have a lot of space--or who have adventurous cats and can't do the real deal. My favorite thing here is probably the group of metal trees under glass. In this context they look festive, but I think they'd also work as part of your normal, not-holiday decorations. I'd like to see them in a bookcase.

Hilariously, one spot in my house looks a lot like this collection I put together, complete with a ceramic deer head, red fake trees, and things that are gold:

I can't deny the song in my heart, you guys. The deer is actually on this shelf all the time, as is the gold tray, and they both felt festive enough to hang out with some glittery accents. I also went with a red/turquoise theme instead of the traditional red/green because I use a lot of blues around the house already. It was a lot easier to work with the existing color than to switch all of it out for green. And I actually think this looks a lot more like "us" anyway, so it's a win-win.

How do you decorate for the holidays? Are you into minimal items, too, or do you Go Big Or Go Home? Who else wants to go spray paint some nutcrackers? What's your favorite way to blend seasonal decor with your everyday pieces? -Paige

Gaaah, that place setting! Those branches! I clearly need Paige to come over and help me get festive next year, because this time around, I've been slacking. I love everything she picked for this modern holiday roundup of goodness. In addition to writing for Bubby and Bean as our Home Contributor, Paige works as an Interior Designer (check out her biz, The Room Kit) and blogs over at Little Nostalgia. 2. I love those branches with the hanging ornaments and also your red snowflake in the white frame! Although I really like traditional decor like I grew up with - because of our cats we keep it simple :)

  3. My favorite part of these is how clean everything this. I feel like my xmas decorations are so cluttered, this is great inspiration!

  6. Can you send Paige to decorate my place for Christmas? Seriously. I've had the same decorations for the past four years, and add an average of zero new things each year... While my display is pretty, it's getting a bit tired. But I seriously doubt that I'm going to work up the motivation to change it without some serious help :)
