My Favorite Yoga Gear Essentials

Yoga Gear Essentials, via Bubby and Bean

I recently wrote about how after a couple of months of holiday (and admittedly, post holiday) gluttony, I'm focusing on getting my fitness routine back on track. I discovered a newfound love for outdoor walking and running last year, but it's been nearly impossible to get outside for any length of time since early December because of snow and freezing temps. So I've been focusing most of my workouts on one of my long-time favorite indoor physical activities (one that can, of course, be done outside in the warmer months as well): yoga. I've always loved the positive effect that yoga (vinyasa fan here!) has on both my body and mental state, and it's been great to get back into it again.

In addition to the obvious benefits that come with practicing yoga, it's also something that almost anyone can do, and you don't need a ton of equipment or special clothing to do it. That said, there a few pieces of yoga gear that I consider essentials, from a good mat to a comfortable pair of pants crafted to allow for flexibility. There are also extra pieces of gear that can substantially enhance your experience, like balls and massagers (and cute mat bags, of course). Today I'm teaming up with Kohl's to share my current favorites (seen in the collage above) - some of which I have, and some of which occupy my wish list.  (You guys may remember our past collaborations where I shared my favorite fashion pieces from the 'modern folk' trend, the 'school of rock' trend, and the 'cabin cozy' trend. This time we switched gears a little bit and focused on fitness, which was actually a lot of fun.) These goods can be found on Kohls.com, and most of the pieces can be found in their stores as well. I'm especially eyeing that gorgeous green Gaiam yoga mat (#1).

Who else is a yoga fan? What type do you practice? Do you have any essential pieces of gear you can't live without, or any favorites from this list?

This post is in collaboration with Kohl's.

  1. Well, I have a nice mat and meditation cushion and I'm currently designing my own line of Yoga wear...just need to actually start to exercise now :)
Plus I need that foot massager!

  2. Admittedly, I've moved away from yoga a bit since joining the gym, but I still like to do it now and then to stretch out my back. You've just reminded me to get a foam roller and I REALLY like those pants. :-)

  3. Thanks for this, I've been looking for a foam roller but having trouble finding one that's just the right density (granted, I've only been looking in cheap-o department stores!), maybe I'll check that one out.

  5. I have two Gaiam mats and love them both, practice hatha almost exclusively. The pairing of yoga with any other physical activity (especially running) is almost an absolute necessity as I get older. I've stepped up my yoga sessions to five days a week since starting CrossFit and have never felt better.

  6. I admit, it was the fact that you don't need any special equipment or a gym membership that initially attracted me to yoga. Of course, two years later, now that I practise every day and have fallen completely in love with it, I find myself collecting yoga clothes and equipment. I had no idea that Kohl's carried so many yoga essentials but now I definitely need to find a reason to go!

  8. Wish I could do yoga, but each time I've tried, it's been an epic fail. I love me a pair of awesome yoga pants, though. =0)

  10. I do yoga about 5 times a week via Youtube and love it! It does wonders for my body since I'm sitting most of the time. My abs aren't too shabby from it either! However I've been so simple about it with just a yoga mat. It would be a challenge to try tools like a block.
