Some Big News!

Surprise! Essley is officially going to be a big sister in early January! I'm not quite sure what it is with our family and birthdays around the New Year (Essley's is December 28th; mine is January 1st), but in about six months we're going to have another little Capricorn on the loose. Obviously, we are overjoyed. Being a mom has been the most incredible adventure of my life, and I can barely keep the tears in my eyes from pouring down my cheeks (ahhh, the drama of pregnancy hormones) every time I think about getting to do it all again. I'm so thrilled you guys.

Although this pregnancy journey has been different than ours with Essley in that it happened very quickly (which was quite a surprise to us), the majority of the less-than-fun parts of the experience so far has been almost exactly the same. Just like last time, the first trimester was full of nausea and vomiting, food aversions, and eczema breakouts on my face and neck. And once again, the fatigue has been extreme. This time, I also had a toddler to manage while I was heaving over the toilet, so that took things to a new level. Do you know what the great thing is about the woes of those first 12+ weeks though? I feel like they are almost completely overshadowed by the absolute wonder of a new life growing inside of you. I mean, how intense and weird and awesome is it, when you really think about it? It's been impossible for me to let the physical difficulties drag me down because I am so thankful for the experience and so excited for the end result. It's not all rainbows and fluffy clouds, but it's hard to complain when you're ultimately so, so happy.

Phew! I'm stoked to finally be able to break the news. Man is it hard to keep this kind of secret when you're falling asleep at your work station in between barfing episodes on the daily. But mostly, I'm grateful for all of the encouragement I received from my readers during my last pregnancy - and for the opportunity to share some peeks of this adventure with you as well.

  7. I'm so happy for you guys, Melissa! That's wonderful. And how awesome that Essley gets a chance to know the special bond of siblings and hopefully be as close to her future lil bro or sis as you are to Morgan. You are giving her a lifelong gift. :)
