Time to Celebrate!

Although Saturday is technically Independence Day, many people have the day off work tomorrow and will be beginning their celebrations then. So I thought it would be fun to share some beautiful 4th of July inspired images today, before I sign off for the long weekend myself.

I'll be spending the holiday weekend at the final Grateful Dead shows at Solider Field here in Chicago. Most of you probably aren't aware of the fact that during the summers in my older teens, I followed the Dead around the country in a van with my friends, selling my handmade jewelry and clothing to get from show to show. Some of the best memories of my entire life are from that time. And to this day, even though I don't listen to them as often, they remain my all-time favorite band. My clothing company (Mountains of the Moon) was even named after a Dead song. I'm so excited to once again be in the exact place where I was 20 years ago almost to the day when the last show with Jerry Garcia took place. Hundreds of friends, many who I haven't seen in years, are coming into town for the event. It should be pretty epic. I'm ready to get my hippie on!

Before I go, I also wanted to say a quick thank you for your kind words on our big announcement earlier this week. We are absolutely thrilled, and it made us really happy to read all of your sweet comments. Enjoy the holiday if you're here in the states, and if not, enjoy your weekend!

  2. Happy (almost) 4th of July, Melissa! It sounds like you're going to be spending it in a truly special way - and I have to say, what amazing parents you had, letting you following the Dead around the country during your summers as a teenager. Of course, I'm sure you're just as amazing a mom to Essley... and will be to her new sibling, too. Congratulations!

    1. To be fair, it was when I was 18 and 19... In the years when I still lived at home I was only allowed to attend midwest area shows. :) (And thank you for the congrats!)
