California, I'm Comin' Home

Okay, so I'm not exactly going 'home' to California (although the vast majority of my closest friends - the ones who I consider to be family - live there), but the title of this post is a line from my favorite Joni Mitchell song and I just went with it. As I mentioned earlier this week, we head to the airport in a couple of hours to catch a flight to San Francisco, and then drive up to Sonoma for six days. I have been looking forward to this trip for months and months. I'm a bridesmaid in one of my best friend's weddings (and Essley is a flower girl, and Robbie an usher), and I just can't wait to celebrate one of my favorite couples in one of my favorite places in the entire world with dozens and dozens of my favorite people. The trip is kind of a big deal for us. Robbie has had to miss a lot of weddings and other celebrations over the years because of work (even my sister's wedding!), and this is the first time he has ever hired on a sub to cover the shows he'll be missing (aside from when he had to miss the band's New Years run when I was in labor with Essley, but hey, that doesn't really count, right?). I've been working overtime to make up for it, but it's been worth every extra project and late night. It's been a long time since I've been so excited about going somewhere.

The blog will still be full of regular posts while I'm gone. And you can follow along on our trip over on my Instagram. See you back here in a week!

  5. Joni Mitchell wasn't at home in California either, so I think you're just fine borrowing the song lyric ;) Have a wonderful trip! I can't wait to see your photos, you're one of very few people who has a way of making me want to visit places that I would never otherwise add to my travel list. Wisconsin, for example...!

  8. Very cool! I totally love Joni Mitchell and know exactly the song you mean. I've only been to CA once (earlier this year, actually), but I had a great time. Have fun!
