When most people think of picnics, they think of summertime - but there is something that feels so cozy and festive about enjoying a meal outdoors on a crisp fall day. This weekend, we'll be gathering with some friends to hang out around the campfire and indulge in some of our favorite autumn snacks and treats in celebration of the season. I plan to pack our picnic basket up with a big flannel blanket and some of the goodies you see above. In addition to fall food staples like pumpkin pie, apple cider, and sweet potatoes with cranberries (seriously though, how delicious does that salad look?), I'll be bringing some simple decor - mini pumpkins and gourds - to get us all in the spirit. For utensils and plates, I'm opting for biodegradable, compostable items that won't leave a mark on the environment while we're enjoying the outdoors. The best part about getting everything together for our picnic, though, is that I don't even have to leave my house to do it. I can do all of my grocery shopping online and have it delivered right to my door, thanks to Peapod.

You've probably heard of (or used) Peapod, but in case you haven't, they are America's leading internet grocer, delivering more than 23 million orders across 24 U.S. markets. Their online shelves are stocked with more than 12,000 products in a range of categories: produce, meat and seafood, deli items, prepared foods, natural and organic foods, Kosher foods, office and school supplies, seasonal items, video products, pet items, health and beauty aids, wine, beer and spirits (in specific markets), and private labels from Stop & Shop and Giant. Most customers can place orders up to seven days a week for delivery as soon as next-day, or up to two weeks in advance. When they choose a day, they choose a two hour window that is convenient for them. Pretty great, huh?

What are your favorite items to bring on autumn picnics? Am I missing anything? Have you ever used Peapod?

  1. I would love to try Pumpkin Ale, as I have never heard of it before :)
That is so great to have everything delivered to your home. I hope we'll have a similar service over here sooner rather than later!

  2. I can honestly say that I've never gone on an autumn picnic. Eating outdoors has never been my cup of tea - much like doing anything outdoors but taking a long walk really isn't ;) But I have to admit, this spread looks very tempting. Maybe I could set up a plaid blanket in my living room to recreate it?

  6. I'm still yet to try pumpkin pie! It sounds so interesting.
My favourites to take on picnics are grapes and raw dessert slices. Not to mention the wine!
