Winter Wonderlands

We are now knee deep (especially if there's a lot of snow where you live - get it? get it?) in what is known around here as the evilest of all seasons: winter. I will say I have genuinely attempted to improve my bad attitude about winter over the last couple of years, especially in January and February which are my least favorite months. And one way I've done this is to seek out inspiring images of wintertime, as a reminder that even though it's going to be a long time before I step outside without having to bury myself beneath a million layers, winter possesses a quality that, uncomfortable or otherwise, is undeniably beautiful. There was actually a time, when I was living in Colorado, that I appreciated winter on many levels. But that was in a place where, very unlike where I live now, these images are actually representative of what I saw when looking out the window.

All of this said, you guys have been hearing me complain about winter since I started this blog five years ago, so I'll shut up about why it makes me silently cry for a good two months at a time and just let you look at these pretty pictures. If you stare at them long enough, winter suddenly doesn't seem quite so bad.

P.S. Thank you all so much for your sweet comments here and on Instagram welcoming baby Emmett! It's been a pretty wonderful first few days getting to know each other and transitioning to a family of four, sleep deprivation and all. We're grateful and happy.

  1. Thank you for the reminder that winter can be so pretty, I'm over it already!

  2. First of all, since I don't know if I've said it yet - congratulations Melissa! And welcome Emmett :) Secondly - winter always does look pretty when you're safely indoors, doesn't it? January is always misery for me, even when it isn't that cold outside, and I have yet to figure out how to change my tune.

  3. I do appreciate the aesthetic of those winter photos! Fresh snow always looks pretty, unfortunately here in Western Germany we only get sleet. Yuk. So I'm glad I'm nice and cozy indoors with my floor heating :)

  4. It looks so beautiful! Sometimes I wish I lived where it snowed.

  5. For a second when you were explaining how you beat the winter blues, I thought you were going to say that you had winter babies. Hahaha. Snuggly new people definitely make it better!

    1. That is a good point though! Having a baby in the winter (which I've done twice now) definitely makes the time go by more quickly.

  6. I hate winter too but I think if I lived in a place where it looked like these pictures I'd have a way better attitude about it!
