Our Living Room (+ Why I Especially Love It Right Now)

Last week, the retaining wall in our backyard collapsed. This wasn't a complete shock, as our next door neighbors' did the same thing last April. In fact, all of the bricks are still sitting in their backyard, almost a year later. The wall spans five properties, and to this day, we're not sure exactly who it belongs to or who is responsible for fixing it, because the HOA, gas company (it runs along a gas line on the gas company's property), and city don't want to take the blame. And homeowners insurance very rarely covers retaining walls. Did I mention that the builders are no longer in business? I won't get into all of the logistics, but we decided to be extremely proactive and have already taken many steps to do everything we can to get this sorted out with many pleading vibes being sent to the universe in hopes of us not having to go completely broke to repair it.

Anyway, with this new home debacle we're facing, finishing our DIY kitchen remodel (which we planned to start back on this week) is on hold until we find out whether or not we have to pay for this mess. So in the meantime, I'm staying positive and focusing on the other areas of our house we've fixed up so far. Our living room, which we redesigned (mainly with just paint and furniture) about a year ago, remains my favorite space. I know I've shared some images of it here before, but I'm sharing again, because, well, I need to look at a space that I love to deter me from ugly crying as I peer out to the the disaster that it currently our backyard.

Our retaining wall fiasco certainly isn't a real world problem by any means, and hey, when you are lucky enough to be able to purchase a home of your own, this is what you sign up for. But you have some positive retaining wall energy to send our way, we'll take it!
