10 Fun St. Patrick's Day Activities to Do With Kids

How to Celebrate St. Patricks at Home

When I was a kid growing up in Chicagoland, a highly Irish area of the country, I always felt like I didn't quite belong this time of year because I wasn't Irish. Many years later, after my grandmother passed away, we discovered that we are not only Irish, but very Irish. Maybe that's why we admittedly go over the top when it comes to St. Paddy's Day these days.

If you celebrate, here are some fun St. Patrick's Day activities my kids love.

1. Wear green.
The easiest way to celebrate!

2. Go to a St. Paddy's Day parade.
After a couple of years of these parades (understandably) being canceled, many are back.

3. Make a leprechaun trap.
You can find ideas for these all over the internet.

4. Get crafty.
My kids love to paint shamrocks, make rainbows out of construction paper with cotton balls, make green jewelry, and draw leprechauns.

5. Make an Irish meal.
A friend from Ireland told me last year that no one in Ireland eats corned beef and cabbage, which I thought was hilarious. I do love to make and eat vegetarian shephard's pie though.

6. Color your drinks green.
A little green food coloring can make everything from milk to juice turn green.

7. Read St. Patrick's Day themed books.
We love a good holiday-themed book, and we have a handful of St. Patrick's Day themed books we love.

8. Make your own Shamrock Shake.
Put Greek yogurt, spinach leaves, avocado, mint leaves, ice, and honey in a blender for a shamrock smoothie! You can find a bunch of at home recipes with ice cream online as well.

9. Have an Irish dance party.
Irish music is so fun! My kids love to awkwardly attempt Irish dancing too.

10. Have a coin hunt.
Leprechauns bring and hide chocolate coins in our house on St. Patrick's Day, but our kids think it's so fun when we also hide some ahead of time and have a hunt.

Happy St. Paddy's and may the wind be at your back!
