Saturday Morning Daydreams

Anthropologie book displays
It's no secret that I'm slightly obsessed with Anthropologie's window displays (case in point #1 and #2), but these particular displays, made from discarded books, might top them all.

read sculpture new york public library
This sculpture in front of the New York Public library was made from 25,000 Dr. Seuss books.  I mean, how much more amazing could something possibly be?

kraft paper book covers
Who knew that a simple roll of kraft paper and a white paint pen could create such an elegant transformation? (source)

bookshelf window
If this was in my city, I'd find a way to walk by every single day.

embroidered Penguin books
These hand-embroidered covers by Jilliam Tamaki will be available through Penguin Books Classics in October.  Talk about visually stunning.  This girl's got talent.

cozy book nook
If you need me, I'll be in this ridiculously cozy room. (source)

On this fine Saturday morning, I am daydreaming of books.  Maybe that's because it's summertime, and there isn't much I find more relaxing than falling asleep with a summer breeze coming through the window and book in hand.  I take comfort in surrounding myself with books.  In fact, we have bookshelves in almost every room of our little place.  "Books open your mind, broaden your mind, and strengthen you as nothing else can." - William Feather. (Well said).

What are you plans this weekend?  This is the last weekend Robbie is home before the band hits the road again, and it's been so beautiful here in Chicago, so we made plans to go on an estate sale marathon today (I'd love to score some more really old books!).  Weather.com, however, seems to think that our sunshine will be replaced with thunderstorms, and Bubby dog is not a fan of thunderstorms - especially when he's alone.  Thankfully, his vet started carrying the thundershirt and we picked one up for him yesterday.  So cross your fingers that it helps the poor guy brave the wrath of the great thunder-y unknown (therefore allowing his parents to go on their fancy day-date).  For all of you fellow dog-lovers, I'll be sure to let you know how well the thundershirt works.  If it ends up that we can't leave, a good book with a thunderstorm soundtrack playing in the background sounds pretty nice too.

(Pssst...  You can check out past editions of Saturday Morning Daydreams right HERE).

  2. I really love how everyone in the blog world read. i guess its only fitting since we do write everyday. more people in the world need to read! i hate when people ask "do you read?" i always laugh at that question, because it should be one you don't even have to ask!

  9. I think I've probably told you before how much I love books too; our apartment is almost overflowing with them! That READ sculpture in from of the NY public library is perfection. The embroidered book covers by Jillian Tamaki are beautiful too. And those photos of the bookstores with books piled up to the ceiling and a cozy chair? Yep, pretty much my idea of heaven.

  11. Oh my goodness, that bookstore is my dream!! We don't have anything like that in our area. My absolute dream job - if I knew I couldn't fail - would be to own a bookstore just like that! :)

  15. For some reason I'm most drawn to the simplicity of the kraft book covers! And what a simple thing to do... might be perfect for covering the books I take with me to read on the subway. (They always manage to get banged up in my purse!)
