With Halloween just a few days away, it feels like the perfect time to pay tribute to the quintessential color of this time of year: orange.  I'm admittedly picky when it comes to orange.  It has to be the right shade, and how I define "right" depends on the object.  For example, I'm quite fond of muted oranges and rust tones in my clothing and accessories, but likely wouldn't wear a dramatically bright or neon orange unless it was just a pop.  The same goes for home decor and other non-wearable items, although I do love a nice vibrant orange when it comes to mid-century vintage pieces (my most prized piece of kitchenware is an orange Pyrex daisy bowl that was my mother's).  Regardless of shade, there's no denying that orange is October's official color.  The items above represent some of my current favorites.

It's Friday you guys!  I'm spending the rest of the morning tying up work stuff for the week, and then I'm taking a short road trip up to Milwaukee to meet Robbie and the band for their two-night Halloween run.  Each year, in a different city, they play two shows in a row the weekend before Halloween.  The second night is always quite the event.  The entire evening is a mash-up theme, so they play mash-ups of different songs, and the band, crew, family, friends and fans wear mashed-up costumes. I'm not going to reveal my costume yet, but I'll post some pictures on Twitter and Instagram (user name bubbyandbean) tomorrow before the show. :)

What are your plans this weekend?  And what about orange?  Love it or leave it?

  1. LOVE orange. It's such a bright, punchy, passionate color if you ask me. I really want that Believe necklace! I love pairing orange with a teal blue, so pretty.

Also, I cannot wait to see your costume. :D I'm going as Princess Peach this year, and Jen as Princess Daisy! We may dress up in something scarier for when the kids arrive, though!

  2. Sounds like your weekend is going to be a blast! I'm stuck sitting around writing essays all weekend + I've got some serious research to do, yuck!
I've personally never been a fan of orange :(

  3. I really like orange! I only own one orange item though and it's a bright orange tank top that doesn't get worn much.
This weekend is Halloweekend and I'm an undergrad student so I think you know where I'm going with this. Can't wait!

  4. How had I not ever heard of Lulu's before?

  5. I live in East TN and it is sacrilegious to say you do not like orange! (UT Vols) The first game day I lived here I was shocked at the amount of orange worn..a perfect day to bust out of jail in your orange jumpsuit..they'd never find you! That said I both love and hate orange. I despise rust and burnt orange but looove tangerine and citrus-y orange. I have olive skin so orange it tricky for me to wear and not look sallow..and to quote Elle Woods, "Whoever said orange is the new black was seriously deranged"!

  6. I love love love all these picks!! So festive and perfect for Halloween and October and all lovely shades of orange!!!

  7. I personally am not a huge fan of orange or wearing orange ( i have red hair and it can be a bit too much). But with the right shade and amount of orange it can work. Your picks are awesome and I really love the shoes and dress.

    Have a nice weekend!

  8. LOVE orange, it's actually my favorite color!! Enjoy yourself on your little endeavor, hope it's a great show!!

  9. Here it is! My favourite colour and month in the whole world put into one beautiful post! Thank you for matching them together ;)

  10. I never liked the color orange as a kid. As I grew up, though, it just kinda grew on me. I really like that dip dyed scarf!
Have fun in Milwaukee this weekend! The family and I will be carving pumpkins. =0)

  11. LOVE the orange headphones!

  12. I LOVE the little orange clutch! I totally want to get an orange bag to wear with my black and white outfits, I think it would look amazing! x

  13. There is something so electric about this post. Orange is an amazing and energizing color, and you have some fun pre-Halloween plans. The weekend is over, and I do hope you had as much fun as I can feel you must have. Can't wait to see your costume photos!
