Over the past few years, you may have noticed the occasional video post here. Back in late 2011, when Bubby and Bean was new, I posted our homemade wedding video. I've also posted a couple of video tributes to Bubby dog, and some other fun mini projects along the way. Most recently, I shared a slideshow video I created to showcase Essley's weekly pictures throughout the year. The content and style of the videos has varied greatly, but one thing about them has been consistent - I've always used Vimeo to upload and share them. Even when I first started using it, I liked it so much that after only a couple of months, I upgraded to a Vimeo PLUS membership. And today I want to tell you guys a little bit about why it continues to be my video sharing platform of choice.
From a design perspective, Vimeo is #1 for me because it has a clean layout and pleasing aesthetic. There isn't a bunch of clutter around the video frames, so the primary focus is on the video itself. There are also no ads. Can we just talk about how annoying it is when you go to watch an online video, hit play, and are greeting by a 30 second pre-roll commercial? The banner ads that pop up on some video sites are really distracting as well, and the fact that Vimeo doesn't have these really adds to its level of artistry, in my opinion.
Speaking of artistry, I've found that Vimeo is a great place to discover new filmmakers, both amateur and professional. It's sort of a niche community of video enthusiasts, and it feels intimate and engaged. Even if you're not a filmmaker and are just posting fun, simple, short videos like I do, because of the network of people on Vimeo, your work is being seen and appreciated. This is another big part of the reason I like it so much.
Another great feature of Vimeo is how it allows you to password protect your videos, so you can share them privately with friends, family, or clients before setting them as public. This is different from creating private videos on other video sharing sites, where you have to be logged into the video's account to actually view it. With Vimeo, all you have to do is forward the video and supply the video password, and you're good to go.
Vimeo's PLUS and PRO accounts are super affordable (just $9.50 a month for the PLUS subscription or $17 a month for the PRO). Both can be invaluable for bloggers or other businesses in addition to more serious filmmakers. And now you can save 10% on Vimeo Plus or PRO! Use promo code: BUBBYBEAN10 through March 31, 2015. Woot!
Before I go, I wanted to share a few of my favorite recent finds on Vimeo (below). You can also check out my videos (which are just for fun and embarrassingly less awesome than these) here.
Have any of you used Vimeo? If you have an account, be sure to leave your URL in the comments so I can check out your videos!
Thank you Vimeo for sponsoring this post. While this was a sponsored opportunity from Vimeo, all content and opinions expressed here are my own. #YourVideosBelongonVimeo
