The Sweetest of Dreams (On a Mattress of Clouds)

Like many parents of little ones, a lack of good, solid sleep has been an issue for us for a few years now. But really, it started long before I had kids. Thanks to an uncomfortable mattress, I admittedly hadn't loved my bed for a long time. And things only got worse when I got pregnant (oh hey, hormone-induced insomnia + bodily pains) - and even more so when I had a baby who quickly transformed into a toddler that would much rather sleep nestled in between in her parents than in a bed of her own, duh. Suddenly there were three of us squeezed into a queen sized bed, on a floppy old mattress that made us dangerously close to miserable. And then I got pregnant again, which meant more insomnia and pains. And soon there was a little baby who, when nursed at night, made four of us cramped into a little bed on top of a mattress that made our backs ache and our hearts weep. It was time for a change.

My regular readers know that reviews around here are few and far between - but when I come across a product I find to be exceptional that I think would genuinely interest my readers, I sometimes feel inspired to share. And this is case with this eve Mattress review I'll be doing here today. I'm sure you're all aware of the ultra hip mattress in a box trend, but this one is special you guys. Truly. From the box that contains it, which is a work of art in itself, to the mattress, which is so cute it's almost a shame to cover it with sheets, to the fact that it is without a doubt the most pleasant mattress upon which I have ever slept, the eve is top notch. It is a glorious cloud of sweet dreams. Really, calling this a "review" wouldn't do the experience justice. We've been using our eve for several weeks now and we are finally - after so, so long - getting restful nights. And with a two year old who would gladly forgo sleep to stay up until dawn loudly chanting every Peppa Pig song ever written and a little babe on the fringes of the torture-to-parents known as four month sleep regression, that's saying a whole lot.

When we first received the box (and I mean come on, even the outside of the shipping box is cute for Pete's sake), I could not wait to tear down the queen size frame, get the king frame set up, unbox that baby and let it do its magic. I think Essley may have been even more excited than we were, especially when we pulled it out and she spotted all the rad motivational morning sayings inside of it ("oooooh, read me the story-in-a-box mama!"). Next came removing the protective wrapping and watching the eve in awe as it slowly expanded like an enchanted spring seedling blossoming into a vibrant summertime flower. (No really, it reminded me of one of those nature show time-lapses of a flower blooming, all intentional and dramatic.) It only took about four hours to reach its full size, which was amazing in itself. And it was glorious. Glorious to see, glorious to lie on. And, you know, if I was one of those parents who let her kids jump on the bed, I'm pretty sure Essley would have had a good half hour of fun jumping on the eve before we got the bed all set up, but of course I would never allow that kind of debauchery. Nope. Not a chance.

People always talk about how weird it feels for the first few nights on a new mattress, but that just didn't happen for us. It was like we'd finally found our sleep time soul mate after years shacked up with the wrong mattress. Upgrading to a king size from a queen with our family of hooligans was obviously a bonus, but it was the eve Mattress that ultimately made the difference. I was actually a little nervous going from a spring mattress (which is all I've ever owned) to a memory foam because I'd heard they could be a little hot and sometimes too firm - even though I knew that eve was a new generation memory foam (cooler with more bounce). The first morning I woke up after sleeping on it, however, those worries were replaced with the unfamiliar feeling of a body without any aching, which felt like a sweet Christmas miracle. Robbie didn't even snore (sorry babe, I just can't leave that part out when I'm trying to be transparent and stuff), and while it might just have been the fact that she knew she was getting pancakes for breakfast, Essley seemed extra chipper as well. Apparently it has something to do with memory foam distributing pressure evenly which results in an amazingly supportive surface for sleep. All I know is that I've had the most comfortable nights of sleep I've had in years since we welcomed an eve into our home.

I also have to say that the people behind this company are some really rad folks. First of all, they seem really nice and fun, and that's important. It just is. Secondly, their management team spent 12 years between them developing mattresses and selling them all over the world, and after 70,000 (yes, that says seventy thousand) prototypes later, they arrived at the eve. So basically, they worked really hard and invested a ton of time getting this mattress just right. On top of that, they offer a free 100 Night Trial so you can really test out your eve and make sure it's the mattress for you before you commit. I'd say that's pretty great.

So there you go, everybody. I know it's an awfully shining review, but I genuinely have nothing bad to say about our eve. We are all so much happier in the mornings and so much more well rested, and while I am knocking on wood with one hand while I type this with the other (because we do have a young baby, after all), I have a feeling these nights full of the sweetest of dreams are going to continue far into the future. I am more than happy to answer any specific questions you might have about the eve Mattress in the comments too, so ask away. Oh - and here's some incredible news for you. 3. We talk passively about a new mattress often - but in our new apartment, our bedroom fits our current double and that's about it. I have dreams of a king, but it will have to wait for now, which is a shame because this mattress does indeed sound divine!
