My Latest Adventure >> One Mile High with the Best of Friends

As I mentioned last week, I took a 3-day trip to Colorado over the weekend to get together with my some of my very best friends for a quick adventure.  On Friday, we met up with Robbie at work to see the band play the amazing Red Rocks (my favorite venue in the world!).  Early Saturday morning, we headed up to Loveland on for the (absolutely beautiful) wedding of our friends Al and Angie.  There were lots of other treats squeezed in as well, including exploring the tunnel backstage at Red Rocks (and signing our names among those of Wilco and Willie Nelson), stopping by our dear friend Annabel's house in Boulder on Sunday to meet her sweet new baby Lyric, having lots of playtime with Orion and Bella (two of my very favorite kids), and getting to see so many old Colorado friends at the wedding who I hadn't seen in many, many years.

Robbie was a complete trooper - he drove up to Loveland after finishing work around 3 AM after the band's Boulder show Saturday to meet us after the wedding. We all stayed up until the sun rose, reminiscing and laughing and catching up.  It was a really incredible weekend that was literally packed full of nonstop activities from the time I left my house for the airport Friday morning until I arrived back very late Sunday night.  I'm not quite sure how I ever lived at 10,000 feet, because between lack of sleep and the altitude, I was absolutely exhausted by the time I hit my airplane seat Sunday night.  I struggled through work yesterday (while consuming a ridiculously excessive amount of coffee), and am still fighting to keep my eyes open, but I wish I could do it all over again right now.

When I was writing my travel photography tips post last week, I felt really inspired to photograph this trip.  I'd intended on taking lots of pictures of Colorado's towering mountains and golden aspens, and I brought my camera and lenses everywhere we went.  I did take a lot pictures (almost 200 between my camera and phone), but I ended up taking them mostly of the show, the wedding, and all of us just hanging out.  Despite my lack of gorgeous scenery shots, in the end, it couldn't have worked out any better.  Because the pictures I now have of this trip are really special, and truly capture the essence of what the weekend was all about. There is nothing better than getting together in one place with the people who mean the most to you, especially when you're normally spread out across the country.  It was one of my favorite weekends of the year.

Have you taken any recent trips or had any fun adventures with best friends who you don't get to see often?

  6. Right by the soundboard? We were there most of the first set. I was lying down backstage for most of the second set (loooong day) but came out again at the end. So glad you had fun and so cool that you came all the way from Atlanta to see it!
