Although we are really making a conscious effort to keep things to a minimum and focus on necessities, it's admittedly been impossible not to start collecting some baby goodies.  I did wait until the end of the first trimester to buy anything, and I haven't accumulated much.  But I look at this as a time of celebration, and some fun things here and there for our little one just make it even more exciting.  Now that we know the gender, we'll get our registry together soon and decide exactly what we need in terms of practical, necessary items.  In the meantime though, I thought I'd share some of the items we've picked up and gotten as gifts so far.  I love each of these so much, and because they make up the very first goodies we got for our baby, I think they'll always hold a special place in my heart.  We've also received some handmade goodies (including the most adorable knit hat from my sister, hand-illustrated onesies from my BFF Jen, and a sweet tummy blanket from our friend Vince's mom) that I need to photograph and share on here at some point - they're just that amazing to me.  And yes, my sentimentality level is through the roof these days.  Welcome to pregnancy.

Do any of you who are moms or dads especially cherish those first items you collected for baby?  And aunts/uncles/friends, are there any particularly special gifts that any of you have gotten for the babies in your lives?

  4. All of these goodies are great! There's always a special place for those items that you want to cherish. I still have at least one item from each of my kids' newborn days. I hope you take pics of the handmade goodies soon, because I can't wait to see them. I'd also love to know what's on your registry list. =0)

  5. Oh collecting things for a long awaited baby is so fun!

Yes: I have a six year old son and three year old daughter and we curated lovely "welcome home" collections for them both. With Charlotte especially (knowing she would be our last), I got sentimental, crocheting her a star shaped afghan. Then when she outgrew some of the beautiful little newborn clothes, I made a digital quilt out of my favorite patterns, then framed the result. I've blogged about the projects, respectively:

    Enjoy this time of collecting!

  6. as soon as i found out we were having a boy i bought this little knit dinosaur hat off etsy and my boss gifted us these teeny, tiny newborn checkered vans. i about die every time i see them now. they are so small! they grow so incredibly fast. it's hard to believe he was ever once so little and new. i have passed on most of my son's things, but no one is touching that hat or those shoes!

  11. Aw I love the little hat and socks! So far all we've purchased is the crib and lots of cloth diapers. It's so hard not to buy things once you find out the gender lol.

  13. My Loukas have this kate quinn organics waffle blanket that he is so super in love with. I bought it for him at a little natural parenting store where I took him to work to with me starting when he was 3 or 4 months old. Anyway, he loves the thing. By now it's all ratty and fraying and super soft and lovely. When Jasper was a teeny, I searched the internet far and wide to find one for him but it appeared KQO stopped making them so I contacted them, they searched their warehouse for another and finally MADE samples for me! I bought THREE of them for back up! So, I'm pretty much a huge fan of their operation there in Washington! I loved their hats, their bundlers, their onesies and receiving blankets, bibs, booties, and of course- all of their stylish little organic baby fashion!

Other things I couldn't do without in my experience with new borns: MOBY wrap, Ergo baby, Nova Natural's Sheep Lambskin Comforter, Hank and JoJO's bamboo retro tube socks (they stay on baby and are so freaking cute!), Aden and Anais bamboo swaddles, Earth Mama Angle Baby Bottom Balm (and OMG- their mama bottom balm!!!!) okay... this comment is too long. I love baby stuff.

    So excited for y'all!
