12 Weeks of Essley

Documenting Baby, Week By Week // Bubby and Bean

When you have a new baby, the one piece of advice you'll get from every parent you know is to make sure you pay attention to the details as much as possible, because they grow and change so much (and so quickly).  So I decided that I'd take a picture of Essley once a week, every week for the first year, as a way to document the subtle changes that we'd otherwise miss.  She just turned 12 weeks old, and I have to admit that it's pretty cool to go back and look at her even just a few weeks ago, and to be able to see the differences between then and now.  It's amazing actually. 12 weeks isn't much time at all, but for an infant, the transformation that occurs over the period of even a week or two can be almost monumental.  And someday we'll be able to share this with her so she can see for herself.  When we were babies, digital cameras and smart phones didn't exist.  We are lucky to be able to so easily record Essley's first weeks and months on this earth and to have something so special to hold on to as she grows up before our eyes.

P.S. We fly back to Chicago from Arizona today.  Booooo.  It was an awesome ten days of sunshine and family time, away from work and stress.  You can see some shots from our adventures on my Instagram (@bubbyandbean).  I'll share more here later this week as well.

  2. It's always so much fun and amazing to see how quickly infants grow in such a short amount of time. Essley is such the cutie!!!

I haven't visited for a bit, because last week was my son's science fair...I was starting to have B&B withdrawals! Just kidding (I've been getting quick fixes on Instagram).

Hope you have a safe flight. =0)

  6. She is beautiful! It is so true that they change so much every day. I swear there are days my kids wake up and they look significantly different then they did the night before! And other days a pair of pants fit and the next they are highwaters! Another thing to do is make sure to record her tiny little voice and cries. They may seem nerve wracking and stress inducing now but later you will be amazed at how much that has changed over time as well! :)

  7. Great idea, mama! My "babies" are 7 & almost 10 and I wish I had done something similar for them. I'm doing that 52 week project with them now, but you are so right, they will never change as quickly as they do that first year.

Baby Essley is a doll! Hope you have safe upcoming travels!

    Love & light,
    Jessica
