Brass Menagerie

By Home Contributor Paige Ronchetti

Brass is having a moment right now and I am FEELING IT--which is funny because I remember making fun of my mom when she chose brass faucets for our house back in the 90s.  I'm admittedly still not a huge fan of brass in faucet form, so I guess old habits die hard, but everything else that's available in this finish? Yes. Put it everywhere.

The nice thing about metallics in general is the hint of glamor they add to a room. Even if your house isn't fancy--mine certainly isn't--having a little twinkle can really elevate a room and make it feel finished. Brass in particular brings some warmth, too, so it's a good option if you think a space is looking kind of stark. If I had to pick the most common places to find it I'd still say light fixtures and mirrors, since those are pretty classic choices, but it's starting to pop up in just about every decor group. I actually had a lot to narrow down for this post, so think of this as a brassy appetizer instead of the full menu.

Let's take a peek at some metal in action, since we're already drooling and everything:

Gorgeous, no? Even though there's a ton of white in there--the walls, bedding, trim, window shades--the brass keeps it from seeming too blah. Of course the wood dresser helps, too, but without the brass accents it wouldn't feel as welcoming.  I think I'll move right in!  I'm sure whoever lives there now won't mind an extra person. I'm tidy.

So are you into the brass trend, too? Maybe you like another metallic? (I've always had a soft spot for chrome.) What's your favorite piece here? - Paige

  1. I remember this chest of drawers my parents owned that had brass handles. I would not normally choose this material for my home, but you found some exceptionally nice things, that's making me reconsider :)

  4. Um yes! Brass everything please! I've been on a roll lately with thrifting brass animal statues and as much as I love them, I think I need to reel it in a bit before it starts looking like grandma's house up in here! ;)

  6. I loved brass long (too long) before it was fashionable and everyone always thought I was crazy for wanting to get my hands on everything gold-finished that I possibly good. I am SO glad it's more readily available these days because you're so right, old habits die hard. I still love brass and I would LOVE to add that gorgeous mirror to my home!

  7. Okay, I'm so going to be the dissenter here! :) We banished all brass from our house as we renovated it. Granted, though- it was everywhere. Fireplace insert, switchplate covers and outlet covers, all hallway light fixtures, and sinks. Everywhere. I don't think I would want it as a feature piece (we tend to go for nickel or antique brass), but I do like something small like that ring dish. He is too cute.

  8. I love that brass is on trend again but in such an updated way. I think bits of it make a room look really fresh. =)
