Baked Pears with Ginger

By Food + Drink Contributor Sara Little

Recipe: Baked Pears with Ginger (for Adult Food + Baby Food!), via Bubby and Bean

Just like the mango and carrot sauté I shared a couple of weeks ago, this recipe is delicious for both adults (dessert or side dish) and kids (makes a fantastic baby food!)

INGREDIENTS
8 Ripe Pears
1T Brown Sugar
1T Butter
1 Lemon
Fresh Ginger

HOW TO PREP
Finely dice pears into 1/4" pieces. I leave the skin on because there are several nutrients contained in the skin; however, you only want to leave the skin on if you are buying organic.
Grate 1/8 teaspoon of fresh ginger with a microplane.
Juice and zest 1 lemon.

HOW TO COOK
Place diced pears in a baking dish lined with parchment paper for easier clean up.
Cut the butter into very small pieces and distribute over the pears.
Spread the brown sugar, grated ginger, and the juice, as well as the zest, of one lemon over the pears.
Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes (you may have to adjust the baking time depending on how ripe the pears are). I usually buy really ripe Bartletts, so my bake time is pretty quick.

For adults, you can serve the baked pears over vanilla ice cream for a delicious dessert. For baby, serve as a topper for oatmeal or add to sauteed spinach and mix in a blender for a yummy puree. (As with any baby food, you will want to introduce these ingredients separately to gauge for food allergies before serving them together.) Again, this recipe can be used to make the whole family happy!

I'll be sharing more of these one dish recipes family recipes in the coming weeks. - Sara

  3. I'm not a huge fan of ginger, but I do like it sometimes and with certain things. I never would have thought to pair it with pears. I would definitely try it out, though. =0) Pinning for later.

    1. I don't love ginger, but here it seems to work. It really helps to cut the sweetness of the pear and creates a more developed flavor. I hope you enjoy it!

    1. I totally get not having time to cook, but this is seriously so simple and only takes about 5-10 minutes to prep. If you don't want to mess around with roasting, you can also throw it in a saucepan to cook.

    1. Piper loved having the baked pears with spinach when she was a baby. Most of the recipes I post on B & B started as baby food for me, but turned into adult recipes after some thought.
