Transforming Our Space with the IKEA Home Tour

Those of you who follow me on Instagram and Snapchat know that I've been working on a project with one of my all time favorite brands, IKEA, over the past few weeks. I'm not going to lie, I let out an audible squeal when they first contacted me about teaming up, as collaborating with them on the blog has been a dream of mine for a few years now. I love IKEA's aesthetic - minimal, neutral, a little boho, and modern. I love that their pieces are truly functional. I love that there is the ability to easily modify their furniture to meet individual needs and/or taste (IKEA hacks are everywhere these days). And I love that their products are affordable - although truly, if someone put pricing aside and filled a warehouse with home products from various companies and told me to pick what I wanted based solely on design, I'm confident I'd still gravitate toward the IKEA pieces.

In case you're not familiar with the  Home Tour Series, a team of experts from IKEA (all of whom first worked in actual IKEA stores throughout the country) travel from city to city to help people with design challenges by making over spaces in their homes. They then share short television show style videos of the transformations on their website and channel. Pretty cool, right? Needless to say, I couldn't have been more thrilled when they approached me about working together on a space in our house.

In early June, members of the Home Tour Squad visited us so we could meet, talk about our home challenges and styles, formulate some ideas, take measurements, and do some filming of the "before." Our situation was a little different than their regular makeovers, since we'd be doing it together as a team, and also because we are actively house hunting and could potentially move at anytime.  For us, the biggest challenge we'd been facing in our current home was our living room seating situation - a challenge that would continue into our new place when we moved as well. We all agreed this was the perfect project to tackle, and made a plan. A couple of weeks later, the whole squad came back and in one day, we transformed the entire room.

I'll be sharing the finished space - complete with before, after, and the process - in September when the IKEA Home Tour episode goes live, along with all of the details (including how I finally broke out of my "I'm Melissa and I only decorate with neutral colors" comfort zone). But I wanted to give you guys a little preview for now with a few behind-the-scenes shots from along the way. This was, by far, one of my favorite blog projects of all time. We absolutely loved everyone on the team, loved working with them on the space, and loved (and are continuing to love) the finished product. Stay tuned for all the details and our Home Tour Series episode in a couple of months!

This post is in partnership with IKEA. Thank you for supporting the brands that help make Bubby and Bean possible.
